I completely agree that increasing health literacy and making disease management more seamless and less work are key components to helping the most people get and stay healthy.

I also love this trend you quoted:
"The Internet was created to connect people and groups.

The first step is to share stories.

The next step is to share quantitative observations."

Brilliant - while I think stories are always going to be an important part of how humans learn and communicate, they can be augmented and amplified by quantitative data.

Re: Packed house at #smcdc event

Blogs are so informative where we get lots of information on any topic. Untethered PHRs offer tremendous potential for innovation. I compare health care transactions to payment card transactions. I can go to virtually any merchant in the country or world and swipe my credit card, and that merchant does not need to tether their systems to any bank or customer. And I as the customer can get access to that transaction in any number of web-based applications to do what I wish. This in my view is the model that should be followed in health care.

Re: #health2con - The Patient is in!

Thanks to Health 2.0 The Patient Is In session. And "free" never gives me the peace of mind in knowing that it'll be there 5 years from now.

Take "free" with a grain of salt... better yet a full salt shaker... or better yet a low-sodium herb alternative of your choice.

Re: Free is just too high a price to pay

When I was in college, we had a power outage during a timed computer assignment. It only lasted a moment, but it wiped out everyone's unsaved changes -- in some cases, their entire projects.

Our instructor refused to grant us the extra time to start over and stuck to the original deadline. His lesson: now that you've done it once, you can re-do it faster. My own takeaway: backup constantly, BUT be prepared to lose anything.

Relying on free services may be just the kick in the ass the web economy needs to shift toward a for-pay model across the board.

Re: Health Care Reform and Health 2.0

Great #HealthReform & #Health20 slides @ekivemark thanks for sharing them
